Question 1

Do heat pumps work in Canadian winters?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Modern cold-climate heat pumps are designed to keep heating at well below freezing, and many models are rated to operate at around -25°C or colder. Their heating output and efficiency do decrease as temperatures drop, so we size equipment for your home and recommend backup heat where it makes sense.

Question 2

Can a heat pump replace my air conditioner?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A heat pump provides air conditioning in summer just like a central air conditioner, and also heats in the colder months. Replacing an aging air conditioner is one of the most common times homeowners switch.

Question 3

Can I keep my existing furnace?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. Many homeowners pair a heat pump with their existing furnace in a hybrid (dual-fuel) setup. The heat pump handles most of the year and the furnace takes over in the coldest weather. Whether this is suitable depends on the furnace's age, condition and compatibility.

Question 4

How much does a heat pump installation cost?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your home's size and heat load, the equipment type and capacity, existing ductwork, your electrical panel, and installation complexity. We provide a personalized quote after reviewing your home rather than advertising one-size-fits-all prices.

Question 5

Am I eligible for government rebates?

Accepted Answer

Eligibility depends on each program's rules, which can include your province, household income, home ownership, existing heating fuel, the equipment installed, and timing. We can help you understand programs that may apply, but final eligibility is always determined by the program administrator.

Question 6

Can I combine federal and Ontario rebates?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. Whether incentives can be combined depends on each program's conditions, and rules for newly announced programs may not be finalized yet. We will not assume stacking is allowed until it has been confirmed.

Question 7

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

Many residential installations are completed in one to three days once equipment is on site. Homes needing electrical upgrades, ductwork changes or multiple indoor units can take longer. We confirm timing with your quote.

Question 8

What brands do you install?

Accepted Answer

We select reputable equipment based on your home, budget and climate needs, with a focus on cold-climate performance and program eligibility. We'll explain the specific makes and models included in your quote.

Question 9

Do I need to replace my ductwork?

Accepted Answer

Not usually. Many homes can use their existing ducts, though some need modifications for airflow. Homes without ducts can use ductless (mini-split) systems. We assess this during your home review.

Question 10

How do warranties work?

Accepted Answer

Equipment is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, which often requires registration and professional installation. Workmanship coverage is set out in your Heat Pump Direct agreement. We'll provide the specific warranty terms with your quote.

Question 11

What happens when temperatures fall below -25°C?

Accepted Answer

At very low temperatures, a heat pump's output drops and some units may approach their operating limits. That's why many systems include backup heat — such as electric resistance heat or an existing furnace — to keep your home comfortable during extreme cold snaps.
